Metagenics Glucosamine Intensive Care — 60 Tablets
TGA-listed joint support supplement — glucosamine sulfate with silica, zinc, boron, and manganese.
Practitioner-only joint support complex
Metagenics Glucosamine Intensive Care is a TGA-listed complementary medicine manufactured by Metagenics (Aust) Pty Ltd.
Metagenics is a practitioner-only supplement brand with over 40 years of product development history, manufacturing to GMP standards and conducting more than 200,000 quality tests annually from ingredient sourcing through to finished product. Their products are formulated in collaboration with healthcare practitioners and sold through qualified health professionals rather than general retail.
Glucosamine Intensive Care contains a clinically trialled dose of glucosamine sulfate — the form with the strongest evidence base — alongside silica, zinc, boron, and manganese. These supporting nutrients are included for their roles in connective tissue formation, cartilage maintenance, and bone health.
The product is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, with glucosamine derived from corn via fermentation rather than shellfish. It is free from dairy protein, lactose, eggs, gluten, wheat, nuts, yeast, soy protein, and artificial additives.
Joint support nutrients in each tablet
Recommended dose is 1 tablet twice daily, giving 2 tablets per day total.
Glucosamine sulfate potassium chloride
942mg equivalent to glucosamine sulfate 750mg
At 2 tablets daily, this delivers 1,500mg of glucosamine sulfate — the dose used in the majority of clinical trials demonstrating benefit for knee osteoarthritis.
Silica
20mg colloidal anhydrous
Silicon is required for the synthesis of collagen and proteoglycans, structural proteins that form the matrix of cartilage and connective tissue.
Zinc bisglycinate
50mg equivalent to zinc 10mg
Zinc supports enzymatic reactions involved in collagen synthesis and tissue repair. The bisglycinate form is included for bioavailability and reduced gastrointestinal side effects.
Manganese amino acid chelate
47mg equivalent to manganese 7.5mg
Manganese is a cofactor for enzymes involved in glycosaminoglycan synthesis and plays a role in bone mineral density maintenance.
Borax
13mg equivalent to boron 1.5mg
Boron supports bone metabolism, calcium, magnesium, and vitamin D metabolism, and joint and connective tissue health.
Supports cartilage, connective tissue, and joint mobility

- Provides structural nutrients involved in the synthesis of collagen, proteoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans.
- Includes boron to support bone metabolism and joint tissue health.
- Delivered as a practitioner-formulated, GMP-manufactured supplement with verified ingredient potency.
What research shows
Glucosamine sulfate is one of the most studied dietary supplements in musculoskeletal medicine. The evidence is strongest for knee osteoarthritis, but it remains mixed overall.
- Symptom relief in knee osteoarthritis: A 2023 systematic review found glucosamine sulfate 1,500mg/day produced significantly greater pain reduction than placebo on the VAS scale.
- Structural benefit: Two independent 3-year studies found glucosamine sulfate 1,500mg/day slowed femorotibial joint space narrowing in mild-to-moderate knee osteoarthritis.
- Conflicting evidence: Not all trials have found benefit. The evidence picture is genuinely mixed, and some reviews conclude more definitive research is needed.
- Form matters: Glucosamine sulfate has a better evidence base than glucosamine hydrochloride.
- Time to effect: Clinical trials typically run for 3 to 6 months before measurable benefits are observed.
A long-term joint support adjunct
Chiropractic care addresses joint mechanics, spinal alignment, and soft tissue function — it does not reverse cartilage degradation.
For patients with mild to moderate osteoarthritis, glucosamine supplementation may be a logical adjunct to chiropractic and rehabilitation care. Chiropractic care may reduce mechanical stress and improve joint mobility, while glucosamine may support the cartilage tissue sustaining that load. Our chiropractors may recommend this product for patients where arthritic joint changes are contributing to their presentation, particularly for knee, hip, and spinal osteoarthritis.
