Chiropractic Care for Seniors in Joondalup: Supporting Mobility and Independence
Gentle, tailored chiropractic care to support balance, mobility and independence as you age.
Staying mobile and steady on your feet matters at every age, but it becomes a bigger focus as the years go on. We work with a lot of older adults across Joondalup and Perth’s northern suburbs who want to stay active, independent and confident in their movement.
Why Mobility and Balance Matter
Falls are one of the leading causes of injury and loss of independence in older adults, and multiple factors contribute to fall risk, including muscle strength, joint mobility, balance, proprioception and general spinal function.
Chiropractic care sits alongside exercise and other health checks as one part of a broader approach to staying steady and mobile.
Common Reasons Seniors Come to See Us
- General stiffness or reduced mobility through the spine and joints
- Balance concerns or an increased sense of unsteadiness
- Chronic back, hip or neck pain affecting daily activity
- A recent fall or a fear of falling
- Wanting to stay active for gardening, walking or time with grandchildren
What the Research Shows
Manual therapy has moderate quality evidence for reducing chronic low back pain in older adults specifically.
A systematic review by de Luca et al. (2017) looked specifically at manual therapy for chronic low back pain in older persons and found moderate evidence supporting its use for reducing pain and improving disability, based on trials of good methodological quality with a low risk of bias.
Chiropractic care targets several of the known risk factors for falls, though direct proof of fall prevention is still limited.
A systematic review by Grabowska et al. (2022) examined chiropractic care for fall prevention in older adults and found that its component parts, including manual therapy, exercise prescription and balance related care, address multiple recognised fall risk factors. The review noted that no single, adequately powered trial has yet directly measured chiropractic care’s long-term impact on fall rates, so this remains a promising but still developing area of evidence.
How We Can Help
Care is always adapted to your bone health, general health and comfort level. This might include:
A gentle, low-force adjusting technique often preferred for older adults, particularly where bone density is a consideration.
Hands on work to ease stiffness and improve comfort through the spine and major joints.
Balance and strengthening exercises targeting the risk factors most linked to falls, in line with the research above.
A low-load option well suited to managing chronic joint pain without adding physical stress to the area.
