About this product

The foundational product in the fisiocrem range

fisiocrem Solugel is a TGA-listed topical botanical gel manufactured by Pronat Group Australia Pty Ltd and marketed by fisiocrem Australia.

It is listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as AUST L 327081 — a listed complementary medicine approved for the temporary relief of muscular aches and pains. It has been available in Australia since 2019 and is widely used and recommended by chiropractors, physiotherapists, and massage therapists.

Solugel is the better choice for muscle-focused presentations such as strains, post-exercise soreness, soft tissue injuries, and general muscular aches. fisiocrem Joint Ease is built on the Solugel base with two additional botanical actives for arthritic joint conditions.

The gel contains concentrated plant extracts, not homeopathic dilutions, and does not contain parabens or hydroxybenzoates.

Active ingredients

Botanical actives listed per gram of gel

Solugel combines concentrated plant extracts with menthol for immediate cooling comfort and botanical anti-inflammatory support.

Arnica montana flower liquid extract

105 mg/g equivalent to 10.5 mg/g dry

The primary and highest-concentration active in the Solugel formulation, with traditional topical use for bruises, sprains, and muscular pain.

Hypericum perforatum flower liquid extract

25 mg/g equivalent to 2.5 mg/g dry

St John's Wort has a long history of topical use for nerve-related pain, irritated tissues, and inflammation.

Calendula officinalis flower liquid extract

25 mg/g equivalent to 2.5 mg/g dry

Marigold extract supports the anti-inflammatory profile and has traditional topical use for minor skin inflammation and wound-healing support.

Melaleuca alternifolia leaf essential oil

10 mg/g

Australian tea tree oil contributes anti-inflammatory support and the product's clean fragrance profile.

Menthol

25 mg/g

A topical counterirritant that activates cold receptors in the skin, creating the characteristic cooling sensation on application.

What it does

Temporary relief for muscular aches and soft tissue soreness

  1. Provides temporary relief of muscular aches and pains, including those arising from strains, sprains, physical activity, and everyday overuse.
  2. The menthol delivers an immediate cooling sensation on application while the botanical ingredients work through anti-inflammatory mechanisms.
  3. The arnica, hypericum, and calendula combination targets soft tissue inflammation, swelling, and irritation in the affected area.
  4. Non-greasy and fast-absorbing, making it practical during or after treatment, at work, or before physical activity.
  5. Low odour compared to camphor or menthol-heavy products, making it more practical for workplace or daytime use.
  6. Can be used as a massage medium because the gel base absorbs readily.
How it helps you

Clinically evidenced for pain and mobility support

In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, the Solugel formulation was shown to significantly reduce pain and improve mobility within minutes of the first application. The study was funded by fisiocrem, which is a conflict of interest to note.

  1. Muscle strains and soft tissue injuries: Arnica and hypericum are well suited to inflammation and pain associated with minor acute soft tissue injuries.
  2. Post-exercise and post-treatment soreness: Solugel can help manage soreness after exercise or chiropractic adjustments.
  3. Chronic muscular tension: Daily use between visits may help maintain comfort and reduce accumulated stiffness.
  4. Bruising: Arnica is a reasonable choice for bruising from physical activity, falls, or soft tissue work.
  5. Low back pain, whiplash, and sciatica: It may help with the muscular component of these presentations, but does not treat the underlying structural cause.
Solugel vs Joint Ease

Which one is right for you?

  1. fisiocrem Solugel: Best for muscular aches and pains, strains, sprains, bruises, post-exercise soreness, and soft tissue injuries.
  2. fisiocrem Joint Ease: Best for mild osteoarthritis, mild arthritis, and joint-specific pain. It includes Boswellia serrata and Nigella sativa for arthritic joint conditions.
  3. If you have both: Ask your chiropractor which product better matches your primary presentation, or whether both are appropriate for different areas.
How to use

Massage gently until fully absorbed

  1. Apply 2 to 5 grams of gel to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily, or as often as required for temporary relief.
  2. Massage gently into the skin until fully absorbed.
  3. For muscular areas such as the back, neck, or shoulders, apply and massage in the direction of the muscle fibres.
  4. Can be used before or after physical activity, and before or after chiropractic treatment. Check with your practitioner about timing.
  5. Wash hands after application unless the hands are the treated area.
  6. For external use only. Do not apply to broken or damaged skin.
  7. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  8. If you have sensitive skin, apply a small test amount to a limited area first and wait 24 hours before widespread use.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Voltaren is a topical NSAID and a registered medicine. Deep Heat uses methyl salicylate and menthol as counterirritants. Solugel uses a botanical extract combination — arnica, hypericum, calendula, and melaleuca — alongside menthol. These are different mechanisms and different regulatory categories.

Do not apply two topical products to the same area at the same time. If you are also using Voltaren, Deep Heat, or another topical product, apply them to different areas or at different times of day. Check with your chiropractor or pharmacist if unsure.

The product is not specifically listed as contraindicated in pregnancy, but fisiocrem advises caution and recommends checking with a healthcare professional first. We would apply the same recommendation at Lakeside Chiropractic.

The Solugel formulation does not rely on camphor or large amounts of methyl salicylate, which are responsible for the strong smell in many conventional sports rubs. Menthol provides mild cooling without the heavy medicinal odour.

At 2 to 5g per application, two to three times daily, a 120g tube lasts approximately two to four weeks with regular use. A 250g tube or tub lasts considerably longer and better suits ongoing daily home use.

Yes. Solugel is used by many chiropractors and massage therapists as a treatment medium. Ask your chiropractor at Lakeside if this is something they incorporate into your care.
