How long will I need Chiropractic care

Nowadays we want everything to be instantaneous and this has been easily attainable with things like mobile phones. If we need to talk to someone, we quickly call them. We want food, we order delivery. We need a ride, we order a car. And you may agree with me that we don’t want to wait, and most of the time we don’t need to wait very long. Although, when it comes to your health and healing of your body, there isn’t an app or a quick fix.

The healing process of the body is different for everyone, although your current condition and adaption of your body does play into it.

The healing process and how long you would need chiropractic care can depend on;

  • Your age
  • Your fitness level
  • How long you have had the pain for
  • Severity of injury
  • Mental attitude
  • Diet

And this also depends on your current presentation and as to what is going on with your body. Healing time for ligaments, tendons, muscles, discs, cartilage and joints is different. Ligaments and tendons tend to take a little longer, on average 6-8 weeks. Whereas discs are cartilage can take longer, up to 3 + months, which is due to the poor blood supply in this area which can slow recovery.

Dr Schiller adjusting chiropractic patientHere at Lakeside Chiropractic we are wanting to treat your pain, but the main reason you will find that you are coming back for future appointments is so we can treat the underlying issue. As if we don’t treat the underlying issue, even if your pain has subsided, the issue will come back!

For the majority of people, after the first few chiropractic visits you will start to feel relief. This can also happen after your first chiropractic treatment! Studies have shown that 60% of patients will start feeling relief after their first chiropractic treatment, and 30% of patients can take up 4 to 6 treatments to feel relief. The other 10% can take some time to start feeling relief.

If and when improvement is noticed, your chiropractor will taper your treatment frequency. The tapering of care will be likely to further include some self-help and home-based exercises, stretches, supplements and/or other care options. In saying this many of our patients stay on with us for a more of a maintenance treatment option because they enjoy the benefits of chiropractic and how their body and neuromuscular system feels. Seeing your chiropractor is similar to seeing your dentist, eating healthy or exercising; as long as you keep it up, you will notice benefits

We have a blog on benefits of chiropractic if you would like to read, however below are some of the benefits our patients report;

  • Encourages your body to treat itself naturally
  • Improve spinal motion and improve your body’s physical function
  • Treats or prevents the reoccurrence of a certain injury
  • Has proven to improve and help the intensity and frequency of headaches
  • It may be used to improve your sleep cycle as it will make you more focussed as you don’t have to worry about your spinal pain

As mentioned earlier, our chiropractors will always try to treat your current pain and prevent future pain from happening, so keep that next appointment booked so you can help your body and feel the benefits of chiropractic.

Although if you're only interested in getting out of pain, then your treatments will be much shorter. However, if you are wanting to get rid of the underlying cause of pain, we will recommend more treatment. This why our chiropractors may recommend treatment even after you've responded to treatment and your pain has subsided.
