Rotator cuff shoulder pain rehabilitation

Pain affecting the shoulder rotator cuff muscles - supraspinatus, subscapularis, infraspinatus and teres minor muscles

Dull ache in the shoulder, which may or may not affect your sleep

Difficulty reaching your back or your head

Assessment done by chiropractor

Assessing tension/flexibility/stretch of the pectoralis minor, levator scapulae and rhomboids, posterior capsule of the shoulder, infraspinatus and latissimus dorsi muscles

Stretches/Exercises recommended for rotator cuff tears

​1. Pull back and down with your shoulder blades

a. Hold for 10 seconds and repeat 10 times

b. Your chiropractor can also assist with postural taping


2. W exercises with shoulder blades retracted and shoulders externally rotated

a. 3 sets of 10 repetitions


3. V exercises done on exercise ball

a. 3 sets of 10 repetitions


4. Eccentric thera-band external rotation

a. Maintain elbow position in side body (adducted) and motion should take 5 seconds


5. Isometric exercises with a wall

a. Back of hand into wall & press
b. External rotation in neutral with a wall & press or self-resisted
c. Belly press
d. Hold for 15-30 seconds for 3-5 times


6. Prone Y arm lift

a. 3 sets of 10 repetitions


7. Lat pull downs

a. Can also kneel down
b. 3 sets of 10 repetitions


​8. Press up

a. 3 sets of 10 repetitions
