Fibromyalgia is a medically unexplained syndrome which affects approximately 1 in every 73 adults. It involves dysfunction of the central nervous system which causes ‘central sensitisation’ and a heightened sensation of pain.

Some of the symptoms include:
• Morning stiffness
• Myofascial pain syndrome (pain/tiredness in muscles and adjacent fibrous tissues)
• Irregular sleep patterns
• Headaches
• Sensitivity to cold or heat
• Widespread pain
• Skin problems
• Depression/Anxiety

While scientists continue to seek a better understanding of Fibromyalgia, it is the Chiropractors job to aid in reduction in patient symptoms and improvement in their function. We can do this through hands-on adjustments which may improve joint motion, acupuncture, dietary and exercise advice and various other techniques. Once their pain is under control, other symptoms associated with fibromyalgia - such as fatigue, sleep deprivation, and depression may also diminish.
