Why see a Chiropractor?

Chiropractic may reduce inflammation and pain and restore proper function and strength to the lower back. At Lakeside chiropractic we use chiropractic adjustments and mobilizations to improve movement in the lower back. Our chiropractors also have training in low force techniques including drops and activator. Interferential therapy which is a low frequency electrical current which help to relief pain and increase blood flow to the lower back. Our chiropractors are also trained in using cold laser therapy. We can also apply k-tape strapping for support and take pressure of a certain spot in the lower back. Our chiropractors utilise soft tissue therapy and the use of dry needling to assist with lower back muscle recovery and we also stock pelvic belts and coccyx cushions for further support. We also recommend exercises or stretches and can give advice on sleeping postures to restore your back to normality.

Some recommendations from our Chiropractors for your everyday activities

  • When you are sitting at your computer desk, either at work or at home, don’t lean forward, keep your shoulders relaxed, arms tucked in, elbow at 90 degrees, lower back supported and feet flat on the ground.
  • If you’re on the phone, at home or work, try standing for the call.
  • Avoid sitting on soft sofas with no back support
  • Use correct lifting and bending techniques
  • Maintain the correct weight and do basic core strengthening exercises
  • Every 20-30 minutes stand up and go for a brief walk around. Even if it’s to fill up a glass of water to drink, this will also help to keep you hydrated.
  • At home, get up every 30 min and do a lap of the house.
  • Stretch your hips flexors once a day for at least 1 minute each side
  • Try yoga poses to improve the shape of you back, the cat and cow poses are easy as is the upward and downward dog poses.
