Tennis Elbow Sports chiropractor Northern Suburbs Joondalup

Tennis elbow or otherwise known as lateral epicondylitis, is a very painful condition due to inflammation at the elbow from overuse. The repeated motion of bending at the elbow seen in racquet sports, for example tennis is the most common cause of this condition. Many other sports and activities can lead to tennis elbow. It is usually seen between 30 and 50 years of age.

The mechanism of injury of tennis elbow: The muscles of the forearm connect to a common tendon that attaches to the bone, the outer aspect of your elbow. These muscles at the forearm extend to the fingers and wrist, so with these repetitive motions it will eventually cause inflammation and damage to the elbow tendon.

Athletes are not the only ones that are at risk of developing tennis elbow. Many that engage in recreational activities or in an occupation that requires repetitive and vigorous use of the forearm muscles tend to acquire tennis elbow. This includes auto-workers, knitting, typing, carpenters, painters, butchers, plumbers, and chefs just to name a few.

Symptoms aren’t usually a sudden onset. It begins gradually and slowly worsens from weeks to months.
